Man behind Glencoe Massacre dies ‘quite exhausted’ by debate
AS THE deliberations on the Treaty of Union neared their end, one of the most able yet controversial figures on the Unionist side, John Dalrymple, First Earl of Stair, died suddenly on 8 January, 1707.
He had been closely involved in the debates, most recently over Article 22 on Scottish representation in the new British parliament, right up until his death. for more click here
