Ancient tree suffers fatal blow

A FREAK wind has destroyed Britain’s oldest sycamore tree, which stood in the grounds of a Lothians college for nearly 450 years.

The ancient tree, at Newbattle Abbey College, is believed to have been planted in 1560 by the Earl of Lothian, who used to own the estate the adult learning college is built on. for more click here
