The Bolt Family of Leith

On the left of the above view, looking east along Commercial Street towards the Bernard Street Bridge, is the Custom House, which is no longer used for its original purpose but remains one of Leith’s most distinctive Georgian buildings. It was erected in 1812 to the designs of Edinburgh architect Robert Reid on a quayside site that had previously been used for boat-building. The docks that superseded the old riverside quays lay behind Commercial Street and access to them was by way of Dock Place, which leads off to the left beside the Customs House. for more click here
