Protect the city archives
Professor Tom Devine and his colleagues (Letters, 27 January) are right to draw public attention to the deplorable state of the City of Edinburgh archives. It is hard to imagine how a City of Culture can hope to retain its international status when it so neglects the written evidence of its past.
Is the city council completely oblivious to the heritage and economic importance of the records that draw people from all over the world to study them? This is not a matter for Edinburgh alone but for the whole of Scotland. The capital city should wake up to its responsibilities. for more click here
