The making of a superhero

When William Wallace’s lifeless head was spiked as a trophy on old London Bridge, Edward I of England probably thought that was that: “Mission accomplished.” And that was how it looked. So far as we know, there was not a squeak from Scotland: not a protest, not a riot, not a rising. Nothing. Not for years. Or maybe it should be no surprise at all.
