Auld friends prepare to party

THE year was 1295, a time when Scotland’s crown was coveted by Edward I of England and two nations found themselves united against a common enemy.

Their treaty – to become known as the Auld Alliance – cemented a special relationship between Scotland and France, fuelled by contempt for their English foes and, no doubt, copious amounts of wine.
