Irregular marriage
Although this painting is a part of the larger painting of the “The March to Finchley” by Hogarth. Although not concerning Leith it shows us what Leith was like in the 18th century and the many cases of irregular marriages which happened. The young lady thinking she is married but is the victim of a confidence trick. These are listed once the couple are actually married and be seen listed in the records of the local churches.
