The Three lords of Restalrig

There were three families that were Lords in Restalrig. The Lords Balmerino, Sir William Purves of Abbeyhill, the persecutor of the Covenanters and the Nisbits of Craigentinny, Craigentinny House can be seen above, of whom the first laird James purchased the land from the last Sir Robert logan of Restalrig. and built Crigentinny house. The lords Balmerino. Purves and Nisbet all were connected to South leith Parish Church and were all Jacobites and Episcopalians during the reign of Charles II . The Nisbets died out in 1764 and the property was purchased by William Miller a Quaker seed merchant.
