While I wholeheartedly agree with M E Mackenzie (March 22) that the Wallace sword must never leave Scotland, I cannot concur with the claim: “There are three ’symbols’ of Scottish nationhood . . . the Stone of Destiny (or a copy?), the Honours of Scotland, and Wallace’s sword.†I do not dispute the worth of the sword as such a symbol
